History
Initiated by the pressures of the fabricate boycotts of the twenties, Migros had to ensure its supply base with their own efforts. This turned Gottlieb Duttweiler, who was actually a trader, into an industrialist.
Since the foundation of the enterprise, the company has concentrated on the production of detergent and cleaning agents and has constantly increased the product offer to the advantage of the customer.
Today Mifa is a renowned, medium sized company with national and international market orientation. There are approximately 300 people employed at our headquarters in Frenkendorf and in 2005 we realized a total turnover of 178.7 Mio. CHF.
In Switzerland we are mainly active for Migros and take up a significant market position in the market sectors of washing and cleaning. We are proud to be the only Swiss detergent producer who produces from Switzerland and for Switzerland. At the same time we are responsible for the predominantly sold detergent label "Total".
For some years now, Mifa has also achieved a name on the European market in the private label sector and successfully works for renowned sales organisations.
1933foundation of the present Mifa in Basel with the name GIFA AG as a 100% subsidiary of the Migros cooperative association, Zürich.
1934Production started of the first detergent and cleaning agent products.
First detergent "Ohä", the water softener "mica", the cleaning agent «Päng»
as well as washing soap and soap chips.
1980Transfer of production and administration to Frenkendorf in Basel-Country under the new company name "MIFA AG".
1991Starting of export activities in the detergent sector.
1993Introduction of detergent in bags, instead of only in boxes.
1995Successful ISO certification.
1999Introduction of detergent tabs as a new form of application.
2001Introduction of fluid detergent sachets as the first supplier on the sales market in Switzerland.
2003"Total" was elected by Reader’s Digest as the most trustworthy detergent label in Switzerland.
25% of the total turnover is achieved from export business alone.
Mifa celebrates its 70th anniversary.
2005 Introduction of the first powder product in a 100% water soluble foil; Handymatic Oxi Speed.
A survey carried out by Promarca found "Total" to be the most popular detergent label in Switzerland.
